  • As we age, repetitive habitual expressions and depletion of skin quality contribute to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. This is a natural progression of ageing. Anti-wrinkle injections, which are made up of a synthesised protein, can be used to soften these lines giving you a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

In order to treat and prevent dynamic line formation occurring, we need to limit the wrinkle forming muscles from moving. For muscle contraction to occur, our nerves release a chemical messenger, acetylcholine, which attaches to the muscle cell receptors causing muscles to contract. By injection the substance into targeted facial muscles, anti-wrinkle injections can prevent the release of acetylcholine therefore relaxing the targeted muscle and giving the overlying skin a smoother appearance.

  • Results can be seen in as little as 3 to 5 days although optimal results take full effect at two weeks. All patients are encouraged to attend a two-week follow-up appointment to assess that desired results have been attained. Some patients may require additional units of anti-wrinkle injections until an appropriate dose has been achieved.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections last approximately last 3-4 months. During this time, the effects will gradually wear off causing original expression lines to return to their pre-injection state. The longevity of anti-wrinkle injections may vary for individuals. This can be due to variables such as dose, age, metabolism and more.

  • At Enhancing Aesthetics Australia we treat the following areas

    ·     Forehead lines

    ·     Frown lines

    ·     Eyebrow lift

    ·     Crow’s feet lines

    ·     Bunny lines (side of the nose)

    ·     Gummy smile

    ·     Drooping mouth corners

    ·     Chin dimpling

    ·     Masseter muscle (bruxism/ teeth grinding/ facial slimming)

    ·     Neck bands (Nefertiti lift)

    ·     Hyperhidrosis (excessive armpit sweating)

Please be advised that certain areas may need to be treated in combination for optimal results.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections are used to treat dynamic lines or expression lines. These are lines that you see when you animate your face. Static lines or lines that are present with out activation of facial muscles are more difficult to treat. Although we may not be able to completely get rid of static lines, we may be able to soften them with appropriate doses of anti-wrinkle injections.

  • Slight discomfort can occur with any injection. Very fine needles are used during anti-wrinkle injections therefore is it relatively painless.

  • Individual results may vary. The face is a very vascularised area. Although significant bruising is uncommon, minimal bruising can occur. A consultation is required to determine the risk of bruising. Those who consume prescribed blood-thinning medications, fish oil and alcohol are at increased risk of bruising. Please consult your practitioner before ceasing any medications.

  • Over the last 3 decades, tens of millions of anti-wrinkle injections have been performed with no documented long-term side effects. There is minimal downtime with anti-wrinkle injections although some side effects may include the follow:

    ·      Redness at injection site

    ·      Bruising

    ·      Small amount of bleeding at injection site

A full list of possible short-term side effects is discussed during your consultation.

  • Although relatively small doses are used for cosmetic purposes, there are certain circumstances where anti-wrinkle injections are not appropriate. Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or attempting to fall pregnant should not receive anti-wrinkle injections. Although there is little research that has been done on this, here at Enhancing Aesthetics Australia we will not take that risk.

Patients who have certain medical conditions or take certain medications may also not be suitable to receive anti-wrinkle injections. A thorough consultation is required to assess individual suitability.

  • Your aftercare requirements are discussed at length during your consultation. All of our patients are given an aftercare brochure post treatments to take home for reference. Please note that aftercare instructions are given to you to ensure optimal results from your treatment. Some of those instructions include the following:

    ·    No laying down for 4 hours post treatment

    ·    Avoid touching the area for 24 hours

    ·    No strenuous exercise for 24 hours

    ·    No facial massages or treatments for two weeks

  • Generally there is no specific preparation required for anti-wrinkle injections. It is advised that you DO NOT wear make-up to your appointment as this will need to be removed and can hold up your treatment. It is also recommended that you follow an at home skin care regime. This will optimise your results.

  • A consultation is required to determine this. An assessment needs to be conducted to see if it is a muscle problem or a volume problem. Anti-wrinkle injections are effective at reducing dynamic wrinkles but they cannot treat everything. Dermal fillers are a fantastic option for treating volume loss and skin texture. Often a combination of anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers is required.

  • The cost of your treatment is dependent on the dose required and number of areas treated. At Enhancing Aesthetics Australia we charge $12.95 per unit of anti-wrinkle injections. For more information book in your complimentary consultation. Alternatively you can contact us at admin@enhancingaesthetics.com.au.

  • Although our injector is qualified to perform your treatments, the products used are schedule 4 substances and therefore require a script from a doctor or cosmetic nurse practitioner. The script is then valid for 12 months before renewal of the script is required.

  • Individual results may vary. All clients require a consultation prior to cosmetic injectables. This can be done in the same session as your treatment. As these results are not permanent, repeated sessions every 3-4 months are required to maintain results.
